Web Hosting NewsSUNNYVALE, Calif. & NEW YORK - Intermedia and Commtouch® (NASDAQ:CTCH) today announced that Intermedia, a leading email and collaboration software as a service (SaaS) provider, has integrated Commtouch Anti-Spam and Zero-Hour™ Virus Outbreak Protection into its hosted Exchange offering at no additional cost to Intermedia’s partners or customers.

Intermedia recently incorporated the Commtouch technology into its existing SpamStopper® mail filtering platform, which also leverages SpamAssassin, ClamAV, as well as Intermedia-developed technology and proprietary integration with Exchange 2007. This additional security offering helps detect many spam, virus-infected and phishing messages that standard technology cannot always detect.

“Intermedia selected Commtouch because its Recurrent Pattern Detection™ technology enables us to provide our customers with additional state-of-the-art spam, phishing and virus detection, while easily integrating into our existing security and email infrastructure, all without additional cost to the customer,” said Jonathan McCormick, vice president of operations at Intermedia. “Commtouch technology enhances our offering by applying pattern matching technology to detection, which goes above and beyond content scanning and heuristics engines.”

Intermedia’s premium hosted Exchange service is distributed mainly to mid-sized businesses with 50-500 employees; its private-labeled solution is sold through over 3,000 IT resellers and managed service providers. The company specializes in providing enterprise-grade solutions through its world class service to small and mid-sized businesses at an affordable price.

For both technological and business reasons, Intermedia believes that many businesses are better served, both in the near- and long-term, by hosted solutions. Despite the current downturn in the economic environment, managed service providers are “poised for growth,” according to Forrester, an independent research firm. “Increased revenue, reduced cost, and improved efficiency drive interest in managed services from firms using it today, and we believe that this will fuel market growth of managed services of all kinds over the next 24 to 30 months,” the firm wrote in its November 2008 report entitled Market Overview: The Broad Opportunities In Managed Services.

“We are pleased to work with such a respected Microsoft Exchange hosting company like Intermedia,” said Avner Amram, Commtouch’s executive vice president and general manager, Americas. “The seamless integration of Commtouch’s technology into managed service offerings makes it easier for Intermedia to offer exceptionally accurate, cost-effective security solutions to its clients.”
