ServInt triples its network capacity to accommodate expansion of customer base

By MyHostNews.com

Web Hosting NewsMcLean, VA – ServInt, a pioneering provider of managed hosting for enterprises worldwide, today announced it has completed a series of core routing upgrades and network additions resulting in an increase of more than 200 percent in overall capacity.  ServInt achieved these upgrades with no customer downtime.

This series of extensive network-infrastructure upgrades allows for optimum network stability and performance as ServInt’s customer base continues to expand.  The upgrades are in response to recent rapid growth of ServInt’s customer base, as well as in preparation for upcoming projects.  The upgrades enable an 8-10x increase in reserve network capacity, which is critical in an environment where clients increasingly require a network that can handle extreme demand spikes without network degradation.

This increase in capacity on ServInt’s 10-gigabit Ethernet network is the latest in a series of infrastructure and personnel additions in recent months.  In September, ServInt completed the largest disk-space upgrade in its history, adding nearly one-half petabyte of storage to its award-winning VPS and SuperVPS products – at no additional charge to customers.  ServInt also appointed new leadership in its Engineering, Provisioning, Network Compliance, and Support divisions in anticipation of aggressive new-customer growth and continued escalating demand from existing customers.

“Making a huge jump in capacity means we can achieve better long-term performance, and value, for our customers.  These network optimizations ensure that we’re prepared to meet our customers’ needs under any circumstance,” said ServInt Chief Technology Officer Matthew Loschert.  “This upgrade enables us to continue to provide stellar network performance to businesses of all sizes worldwide – allowing them to focus on their business, not their hosting infrastructure.” Continue reading “ServInt triples its network capacity to accommodate expansion of customer base” »

New Green Server Meets Demands for Energy-Efficiency from Codero

By MyHostNews.com

Web Hosting NewsOverland Park, Kan. – Codero continues to take a green leadership position in the hosting industry by incorporating environmental considerations into its business practices. A new green server bundle powered by 100% renewable energy is now one of many steps the Infrastructure-as-a-Service company is taking to help reduce the buildup of green house gases currently causing climate change.

Codero has added the Intel® Xeon® Quad Core 2.53 GHz server to its lineup to assist its customers in becoming greener as well.  Built on the Nehalem microarchitecture, it requires less power for the same performance as other servers in its class.  It provides exceptional energy efficiency and performance on demand by dynamically managing cores, threads, cache, interfaces and power at runtime. Rounding out the green bundle to help reduce emissions is a more energy efficient, 80Plus® certified power supply and a green hard drive which uses less power and runs cooler than its counterparts.

With prices starting at $200.00 per month, the cost-efficient green server contains all the features needed to address workloads of growing organizations:

RAM                                      4 GB DDR3-1333
RAM                                      Upgradeable to 16 GB
Model Number                  X3440
Hard Drive                          WD GreenPower TechnologyTM AV-GP SATA
Motherboard                     Supermicro®, RoHS 6/6 compliant
Front Side Bus Speed      2.5 GT/s
L3 Cache                              8 MB
Monthly Transfer            6 TB

To support the green server bundle, Codero provides a range of products and services to help businesses scale for future growth including Server Protection Plan, Server Monitoring, Remote Access, a PCI-compliant environment and Standard Dedicated Server support (see: Scope of Support Overview).

“We have been investigating a variety of eco-friendly ways to counteract the impact data centers have on the environment and to continue to reduce our footprint. The green bundle will help our customers deploy technologies to conserve energy affordably while competently addressing their business IT challenges,” Nicholas Gaugler, Vice President of Development and Engineering at Codero said.

In light of global climate change, Codero is committed to being environmentally friendly, both in terms of the products and services delivered to customers, as well as instilling a company-wide green culture. Codero implements the following sustainable practices:

ServInt sponsors 4th Annual Desert Bus for Hope charity video game marathon

By MyHostNews.com

Web Hosting NewsMcLean, VA — ServInt, a pioneering provider of managed hosting services worldwide, will be sponsoring the 4th annual Desert Bus for Hope charity event beginning November 19th, 2010. All proceeds from the event will go to Child’s Play, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of sick children in Children’s Hospitals all over the world.

The Desert Bus for Hope marathon will be streamed live online by Canadian sketch comedy troupe LoadingReadyRun. The players will play marathon sessions of Penn & Teller’s infamous “Desert Bus”, part of the never-released Sega CD title “Penn & Teller’s Smoke and Mirrors”. In Desert Bus, players are tasked with driving a virtual bus from Tucson, Arizona to Las Vegas, Nevada…in real time. After driving for 8 hours and reaching their virtual destination, players receive a single point, and start the trip all over again in the other direction.

The more donations viewers make to Child’s Play via desertbus.org, the longer the participants are forced to play the game. The end result is a beautiful mix of vindictiveness and charity. In 2009, Desert Bus for Hope raised more than $140,000 for Child’s Play.

ServInt is hosting DesertBus.org on its award winning Solo Series hybrid Dedicated servers. ServInt’s Solo Series combines the flexibility and redundancy of a virtual environment with the raw power of bare-metal hardware. Solo Series customers can take advantage of free daily backups and have access to ServInt’s critically acclaimed Managed Services Team for support.

“We’re incredibly thankful that ServInt is donating the resources we need,” said LoadingReadyRun’s Kathleen De Vere. “With their hosting, we know everyone will be able to see us as we suffer for the children.”

“I can’t tell you how excited we are to host DesertBus.org and its 4th Annual Desert Bus for Hope charity event,” said ServInt COO Christian Dawson. “We’re also glad that we can both contribute to a great cause and ruin LoadingReadyRun’s week. The karma has to cancel out, right?” Continue reading “ServInt sponsors 4th Annual Desert Bus for Hope charity video game marathon” »

GalaxyVisions Commits to Conserve the Environment

By MyHostNews.com

Web Hosting NewsBrooklyn, NY - GalaxyVisions, a managed web hosting, dedicated server, colocation, and shared web services provider announces today its commitment to further its efforts to ‘going green’ and becoming more environmentally responsible in its data center operations. GalaxyVisions is also a proud member of Green America’s Green Business Network ™ and will undertake numerous steps to conserve energy in order to provide more eco-friendly solutions.

One of GalaxyVisions’ eco-friendly efforts to save power is accomplished by the use of high powered exhaust fans and filtration systems which allow it to utilize the outside air throughout the winter months as its primary cooling system.  This allows GalaxyVisions to shutdown its four primary air conditioning units which are not the traditional glycol systems used by the majority of data center facilities, which are unable to be shutdown. This practice will save power on Brooklyn’s Con-Ed Grid, thus enabling Con-Ed to distribute power to more residential areas.  Additionally, GalaxyVisions plans to decrease the temperature in its data center from 75 to 64 degrees allowing servers to work more efficiently, thus reducing the draw on CPU power and lowering energy consumption. By decreasing the temperature within the datacenter, GalaxyVisions, is able to save on energy costs and invest more funds into new technological advancements for the data center.
