The initial phase of the highly anticipated 250,000 square foot data center is now fully operational and the first customers have started moving in. AYKsolutions Announces Linux Mint Operating System Sponsorship

By MyHostNews.com

Web Host NewsSchenectady, NY - AYKsolutions, a New York-based market leader in the field of dedicated server hosting, shared hosting, and virtual private server (VPS) hosting, announced today a generous new sponsorship plan to support the ongoing growth of Linux Mint operating system. AYKsolutions is happy to encourage further development within the Linux community and hopes to help Linux Mint reach as many users as possible.

“Linux Mint is a great, free, and actively supported operating system that is easy to use and light on resources,” says Artyom Khmelnitsky, President of AYKsolutions. “With the popularity of the Linux operating system growing at an incredible rate, we are proud to offer two servers at our Denver data center facility, which Linux Mint currently uses for its repositories. This is an exceptional opportunity for us to give something back to the Linux community that we depend on so heavily in the hosting industry, and we are excited to be involved.”

Started in 2006, Linux Mint is a free Linux based operating system distribution that boasts flexibility, responsiveness, and a wide range of supported software packages. Linux Mint is the second most popular Linux variant in the world and the fourth most popular operating system overall, after Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS, and Canonical’s Ubuntu. Distinctively, Linux Mint offers centralized software sources in a similar style to the Apple App Store and the Android Marketplace, allowing Linux Mint’s users to easily browse, download, and install new software as well as application updates. As a direct result of this centralized approach and stunning growth in popularity, Linux Mint now requires a “best of breed” dedicated hosting solution to cater to its users, provided by AYKsolutions.

“With millions of users and a significant increase in our user base this year, our existing servers in Germany simply could not handle the amount of data needed to serve our users efficiently,” says Clement Lefebvre, Founder of Linux Mint. “When thousands of users hit the same server at exactly the same time, you need not only a server that can handle the processing of the information with RAM and CPU, but also, most importantly, a server that can output that much information at a time. The servers provided to us by AYKsolutions respectively serve 100Mb and 1Gb of data per second, enabling us to meet the ever increasing demands of new and existing Linux Mint users.”

There are many varied elements that can have an impact on the overall performance of a web hosting service, and it is common to find a service range that excels within one area but falls short elsewhere. For example, on hosting accounts that provide incredible connectivity features within a facility, a strict bandwidth restriction may be imposed to limit day-to-day usage. Linux Mint requires a dedicated server hosting solution with consistently high performance across all aspects of the hardware. AYKsolutions currently offers competitive hosting services in ten data centers worldwide, with disk space of up to four 1.5TB hard drives, RAM of up to 128GB, and 10Mbps/100Mbps/1Gbps dedicated uplink. This incredible specification is offered with unmetered bandwidth, allowing customers like Linux Mint to benefit from the full capacity of their hardware without the fear of usage restrictions.

“One of the most valuable aspects of the servers provided to us by AYKsolutions is unmetered bandwidth,” says Linux Mint’s Lefebvre. “This means that we can focus on improving our operating system, enjoy the benefits of its success, and see our user base grow even more without having to worry about not being able to serve them.”

“AYKsolutions is honored to be one of the core server providers for Linux Mint,” adds Khmelnitsky. “Without leaders such as Mr. Lefebvre, there would not be the leaps with open source distributions that we see here today. AYKsolutions will continue to support and work together with Linux Mint for as long as necessary.”

By offering the unrivalled power of unmetered dedicated server hosting to these key members of the Linux community, AYKsolutions is demonstrating an ongoing commitment to the development of operating system technology that makes Linux computing accessible. With this new partnership, set to become a long-term arrangement, both Linux Mint and AYKsolutions can continue to be leading forces in the growth of the web hosting and IT industry.

About Linux Mint
Since development began in 2006, Linux Mint has become the fourth most popular operating system in the world and the second most popular Linux OS variant on the market. Linux Mint is a modern, elegant system that blends remarkable ease of use with astonishing power and versatility. In addition, Linux Mint offers a centralized software store, allowing millions of users worldwide to access and download new software for their system as well as regular updates. Linux Mint is also completely free to download and use and is open source with an active development community looking to improve the main feature set on an ongoing basis.

SoftLayer Launches High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls

By MyHostNews.com

Web Host News – DALLASSoftLayer® Technologies, the innovation leader in Cloud, Dedicated, and Managed Hosting, today announced the introduction of High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls to its lineup of security solutions. SoftLayer customers have the option of adding this high level of protection as a new service for current or new Cloud, Dedicated, or Virtual systems that share the same VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network).

“High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls provide our customers with greater peace of mind,” said Matt Chilek, Vice President of Systems Development and Technology at SoftLayer. “Unfortunately, malicious network activity can happen to anyone, so we’re dedicated to providing our customers with the best protection possible so they can focus on their business and not worry about the security of their infrastructure.”

High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls go beyond protecting servers from malicious activity. The service includes a secondary physical firewall for failover protection, and automatic fall back when the primary firewall regains service.

SoftLayer’s firewalls stand between the entire VLAN and the Public Network, analyzing and filtering all network traffic. With the company’s simple-to-use Customer Portal, customers can easily configure the firewall settings for the entire VLAN as well as for individual computing systems. The Portal also provides a library of templates for applying protection rules and configurations for specific applications. Current templates include mail and Web services, Parallels® Plesk, and cPanel.

High-Availability Dedicated Firewalls are the newest addition to SoftLayer’s selection of firewall security services, which includes Dedicated Hardware Firewalls and Standard Firewalls. All can be provisioned on demand and without service interruption through the company’s leading Customer Portal. The extra security of these firewalls complements SoftLayer’s effort to provide further individualization for each customer’s network security strategy to help them achieve even greater uptime, accessibility, and control.

ServInt Announces The Largest VPS RAM, Disk-Space And Processing-Power Increase in its History

By MyHostNews.com

Web Host NewsMcLean, VA ServInt, a pioneering provider of managed hosting for enterprises worldwide, today began implementing the largest free Virtual Private Server (VPS) resource upgrade in its history.

The upgrade will take two forms.  First, disk space on all hosting packages will be increased by 20 percent.  Second, as a result of the Company’s decision to reduce the number of customers allocated to each virtualized server, most VPS customers will enjoy greatly increased access to RAM, CPU and other performance-impacting resources.  On average, these resources will increase by 33 percent, resulting in a measurably faster end-user experience.

ServInt today also introduced a new service package, Essential+ VPS, that offers 33 percent more RAM than its entry-level Essential VPS counterpart, in addition to greater access to CPU and other performance resources – for only $10 more per month.

“The goal of our new Essential+ VPS is to take the incredible value of our entry-level Essential VPS and augment the specs for our customers who are looking for a little more power, but are not quite ready to make the leap into our Signature VPS or Ultimate VPS packages,” said ServInt Chief Operating Officer Christian Dawson.

ServInt Chief Technology Officer Matthew Loschert said, “With the expansion into our new Northern Virginia data center complete, we’ve been able to add a vast quantity of new hardware to our platform.  We have used this opportunity to dramatically enhance the specifications of all our VPS packages, at no additional cost to our customers.”
