Web Hosting News - ATLANTA — Internap Network Services Corporation (NASDAQ: INAP), a global provider of end-to-end Internet business solutions, announced today its IP network and data center colocation services are being used by UK-based Sharedband to expand its operations and offer its innovative network solution in the US, through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Sharedband Technologies. As the name suggests, Sharedband bonds broadband lines including DSL, cable, T1, wireless and fiber connections from major Internet providers to offer both residential and business customers faster speeds with added resilience.

Until now, high-speed broadband Internet service was not available for millions of homes and businesses due to geographic limitations of carrier infrastructure. Sharedband solves this ‘last mile’ problem by aggregating local bandwidth connections. Applications such as VoIP, video conferencing and software as a service (SaaS) place greater demands on the local loops used to connect to the Internet. Enhanced broadband services such as ADSL2+ and SDSL also suffer from the ‘distance-to-central office’ problem, and are available from a limited number of central offices. Sharedband solves this problem. Sharedband also resolves the issue of upstream-delivery speed. Most Internet services are engineered to provide significantly lower bandwidth for sending files than for downloading files — consequently resulting in the slower upstream time.

“The Internet is a critical personal and professional tool, yet broadband Internet services are unavailable for millions of consumers,” said Paul Evans, chief executive officer of Sharedband. “Internap provides us data center space and optimized IP connectivity that, when combined with Sharedband’s customized firmware, bring broadband Internet to these underserved markets.”

Internap’s bundled data center colocation and Performance IP™ networking services offer a 100 percent performance service level agreement (SLA). Performance IP is based on patented software technology called MIRO (Managed Internet Route Optimizer TM) and 55 network access points worldwide. The Performance IP platform monitors Internet performance across multiple backbones to select the best path for content to travel. It also integrates seamlessly with Internap’s enterprise data center locations at 44 sites throughout the world, giving businesses a vehicle to successfully manage Web sites and network intensive applications.

“Sharedband’s solution provides their customers a high-speed, resilient link into Internap’s route-optimized global IP network,” said James DeBlasio, chief executive officer at Internap. “The result is broadband Internet service can now be delivered to millions of new residential and business consumers using off-the-shelf technology and currently available network capacity.”

According to TeleGeography, a research division of PriMetrica, Inc., Internet traffic grew 53 percent from mid-2007 to mid-20081. As Internet traffic continues to increase, business and residential consumers need a solution that can facilitate fast, reliable connectivity and provide capacity to keep up with the growing dependence on the Web.

About Sharedband
Sharedband software enhances broadband communications by creating faster upload and download speeds and more resilient connections for business sites anywhere using existing lines. It is deployed as a managed service connecting to Sharedband’s national data centers and resold by Service Providers including ISPs, ASPs and Systems Integrators or directly from www.sharedband.com. Sharedband Service Providers are able to offer business customers enhanced broadband services using existing lines. The service improves connectivity for remote sites and branch offices, and bandwidth hungry applications like multiple VoIP, VPN’s, hosted applications and off site data backup. Sharedband works by managing data flows at the packet level across several lines so that the capacities of the lines are aggregated together and act as a single connection that is also resilient. Sharedband is a patented technology and Sharedband Limited is a private company based in Ipswich, Suffolk, UK. Its US subsidiary, Sharedband Technologies, LLC is based in Seattle, WA.

About Internap

Web Hosting News - Brampton, Canada - DemoDemo.com, the market leader in Flash web hosting tutorials, is pleased to announce the launch of monthly subscription tutorials.

Since 2002, DemoDemo has provided hosting Flash tutorials on a one time upfront purchase basis only. As of today, monthly subscription plans are now available. Customers can now pay a small monthly fee rather than having to deal with the larger upfront purchase. This allows medium to large sized hosts the option of minimizing purchasing costs and otherwise using funds for advertising, support and other ways of building their business. But more importantly, it opens the door to small web hosts who would otherwise be unable to confront the one time upfront cost of purchased tutorials due to budget restraints.

The subscription plans range from $14.95 per month to $29.95 per month. The largest plan (Jumbo Plan) sells for $29.95 a month and includes over $3,000.00 of tutorial product.

The subscription tutorials still include the customer’s logo branding throughout and they are still hosted on the customer’s site. The only difference is the cost. Subscription tutorials display for as long as the customer’s account is in good standing. Logo changes and tutorial series updates are included in the monthly fee, which would otherwise incur an additional cost if the tutorials were purchased outright.

About DemoDemo
Since its inception in 2002, DemoDemo (www.demodemo.com) has been the pioneer in producing web hosting Flash tutorials and innovative customer support solutions. Its products include web hosting tutorials, non-English tutorials, custom tutorials and its flagship DemoCenter™. There are now over 2000 tutorials available at DemoDemo.com for cPanel, Plesk, WebHostManager, Ensim, H-Sphere, FrontPage, WS_FTP, SmartFTP and CuteFTP, Helm, ModernBill, phpBB and much more. New tutorial series are added every month. DemoDemo.com is a wholly owned subsidiary of Netasis Internet, Inc.

Web Hosting News - Munich - It is officially the world’s fastest web server: Benchmark test results prove that the PRIMERGY RX600 rack server is the best-performing web server in the world.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers made use of the new Intel Dunnington multi-core processor family, introduced in the fall, in setting the new SPECweb2005 benchmark with a PRIMERGY RX600 S4 datacenter-class rack server, which is designed to offer robustness and redundancy features in a space-optimized 4U rack module.

In retaking the lead, Fujitsu Siemens Computers has demonstrated the benefits of using the industry-standard SPECweb2005 benchmark to help optimize datacenter web servers. The newest results, recorded last month at the Fujitsu Siemens Computers benchmarking laboratories in Paderborn, Germany, represent the latest top score in a closely-contested category.

The SPECweb2005 test measures machine performance as a web server, handling requests for static and dynamic page requests, and simulates three different workload scenarios. Under official test lab conditions, the world record-setting PRIMERGY RX600 S4 returned a SPECweb2005 score of 47,504. This exceeded the previous-best result, established by a US server vendor, of 43,854.

Says Jens-Peter Seick, Senior Vice President, Enterprise Server Business at Fujitsu Siemens Computers: “The latest world record demonstrates the value of the SPEC benchmark for web servers. Not only is it a development platform for vendors to ensure their server performance is optimized, but also it enables datacenter IT managers to really understand the performance of their enterprise web servers, in environments where space and performance really count.”

Specification of the record-setting PRIMERGY RX600 S4: Four six-core Intel Xeon X7460 (Dunnington) processors, 64 GB of memory and four Intel PRO/1000PT Quad-Port Gigabit Ethernet controllers. The server was fitted with five internal SAS 2.5” disks for the operating system and webserver log files, and used 48 external 3.5” SAS disks in four FibreCAT SX40 storage subsystems connected to a LSI MegaRAID SAS8880E PCIe disk controller for the workload files.

Full details of the test results will be available on the SPEC website at: http://www.spec.org/web2005/results/web2005.html

Hosting News - MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA - VeriSign, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSN), the trusted provider of Internet infrastructure services for the networked world, today announced an immediate transition to the SHA-1 algorithm on new RapidSSL brand certificates as of 11:00 a.m. Pacific on Tuesday, December 30. Additionally, VeriSign is offering free re-issuance of RapidSSL Certificates on the SHA-1 algorithm to replace those created with MD5.

The transition to the SHA-1 algorithm came within a few hours of the public unveiling of an MD5 flaw presented by researchers during the 2008 Chaos Communication Congress (CCC) in Berlin, rendering the MD5 flaw ineffective for all new RapidSSL Certificates.

During the Berlin event, researchers presented findings that highlighted an MD5 collision attack using substantial computing power to create a false SSL Certificate using the RapidSSL certificate brand. The attack was a potential method to create a new, false certificate from scratch and required the issuance of new certificates, meaning existing certificates were not targets for this attack.

Because the exploit never impacted certificates already in production on Web sites, including previously-issued RapidSSL Certificates or any other VeriSign brand certificate, current certificates used by banks, brokerages, online merchants, and all other SSL-using entities were not affected by this exploit.

“We applaud this team’s research and efforts to improve online security as well as their disclosure of the findings for the benefit of the broader Internet community,” said Chris Babel, svp and general manager, VeriSign. “We take issues like these very seriously and work quickly to remedy vulnerabilities that could potentially affect trust and security online.”

VeriSign has been phasing out the MD5 hashing algorithm for years. Until the MD5 exploit was made public, VeriSign had planned to discontinue the use of MD5 in customers’ certificates by the end of January, 2009. VeriSign has since discontinued using MD5 when issuing RapidSSL Certificates and has confirmed that all other SSL Certificates that VeriSign issues are not vulnerable to this MD5 attack. VeriSign will continue on its path to discontinue MD5 in all end entity certificates by the end of January, 2009.

Though existing end entity certificates are not at risk from this attack, RapidSSL customers who have certificates in place using the MD5 hashing algorithm may choose to replace their certificates with RapidSSL SHA-1 certificates free of charge; VeriSign is temporarily suspending its normal replacement fees for these replacement certificates. For more information, go to http://www.rapidssl.com//ssl-certificate-support/ssl-support.htm

Hosting News - MIAMI - Terremark Worldwide, Inc. (Nasdaq:TMRK), a leading global provider of managed IT infrastructure services, today announced that it will host NANOG 45, the North American Network Operators Group’s (NANOG) forum for the exchange of technical information and discussion of network implementation issues. NANOG 45, which will be the first NANOG event held outside North America, will take place January 25-28, 2009 at the Renaissance Jaragua Hotel in Santo Domingo.

NANOG is an education and operations organization that coordinates and disseminates technical information related to backbone/enterprise networking technologies and operational practices.
“NANOG 45 is an important forum where global network operators come together to exchange ideas and share the latest technical and operational information affecting networks worldwide,” said Betty Burke, Project Manager of Merit Network Inc., the organization that coordinates NANOG meetings. “We are proud to have Terremark as a partner, especially since a major part of their business model is about connectivity and internetworking, which makes the Internet the unmatched communications tool that it is today.”

Opened in July 2008, the NAP del Caribe provides Terremark’s world-class IT infrastructure services to enterprises and government agencies throughout the country.

Hosting News - DALLAS, TX - FireHost, Inc., a premier managed hosting provider, announces a web application security scanning solution at no charge to SMBs. The hacker security scanning provides detailed reporting on website and web application vulnerabilities.

Many small and medium-sized businesses do not have the resources or expertise necessary to test for website and web application vulnerabilities. When a small business’ website gets hacked, it puts every current and potential customer who visits the site at risk of receiving a malware installation. Understanding SMBs’ unique needs, FireHost announced today a free vulnerability scanning service to help ensure websites and web applications are properly protected.

Chris Drake, President of FireHost said, “We see customers being attacked every day, so in addition to application firewall protection we perform website penetration testing behind our security layer. We feel it’s important to extend hacker prevention services to every client. Our reports empower them to take an active role in website security by protecting sensitive corporate data such as credit card information and customer data before an incident occurs.”

With the FireHost’s vulnerability scanning service, customers can find out if their websites and web applications are vulnerable to hacking attempts like SQL Injections, Cross Site Scripting (XSS attacks), Path Traversal, Bad User Agents, DOS attacks and Port scanning activities. Hackers are beginning to exploit private information via common ports like 80 and 443, and the hacker prevention reports highlight vulnerabilities so they may take steps necessary to protect sensitive and valuable data.

“Common web components can easily become outdated and susceptible to hacking attempts as web developers adjust code. Daily vulnerability scanning helps ensure protection from hackers. For clients who require immediate notification of a website security breach, we have automated daily vulnerability scanning available to highlight vulnerabilities as they appear,” says Ken Richardson, Senior Security Engineer at FireHost.

Visit www.fireblog.com to watch a short, informative video highlighting the negative impact a simple SQL Injection had on BusinessWeek’s website.

About FireHost, Inc.
FireHost, Inc. delivers secure, enterprise-quality managed web hosting to SMBs. Based in Dallas, Texas, FireHost specializes in website and application security for small businesses with high web traffic, or erratic, unpredictable web traffic due to “the Digg effect.” FireHost’s web application protection solutions are universally available to Managed Shared Hosting users and Managed Dedicated Server clients without compromising speed and reliability.
